-Mayor Bob Dubey
As Mayor, Bob Dubey strongly advocates that public safety always be a top priority. Through neighborhood partnerships and retaining the best first responders, we've accomplished lower crime rates and targeted resources to address public concerns.
Mayor Dubey has consistently supported high-quality training, compensation, and benefits for our police and fire departments, including our 911 call operators. He has also supported new resources and gear that improve efficiency and transparency. Most recently, Mayor Dubey supported the addition of a new fire truck and ambulance to ensure residents can rely upon rapid response times in emergency situations.
Mayor Dubey strongly supports continuing the significant dedication that Richardson has made to maintaining the infrastructure that keeps us connected. Throughout 2023 and 2024, the city has repaired or replaced dozens of miles of main roads, neighborhood streets, sidewalks, alleyways, and waterlines. Beyond this are new neighborhood byways to improve pedestrian safety. In addition to addressing urgent, critical repairs, Mayor Dubey supports furthering the city's preventative maintenance strategy to avert more costly and intrusive construction projects.
Under Mayor Dubey's leadership, Richardson's economy continues to expand and attract an array of industries. Mayor Dubey supports the strategic economic investments that result in new businesses opening and creating good-paying jobs. This has filled up empty office buildings and restored aging storefronts to support small business and restaurant success across every corner of the city.
Mayor Dubey is especially proud of the progress within the Innovation Quarter that has enabled successful collaboration between the city, UTD, and private industries. As a result, the Richardson IQ is transforming into a laboratory for groundbreaking research and allowing innovative companies, both big and small, to thrive. In recognition, Richardson was awarded the 2023 Excellence in Economic Development Bronze Award by the International Economic Development Council, and Niche.com ranks Richardson as the 5th Best Suburb in Texas for Young Professionals.
Bob Dubey firmly believes that Richardson must maintain its fiscal responsibility record and being an affordable place to call home. He supported reducing the property tax rate to the lowest since 2005 and raising the senior tax exemption.
As Mayor, he advocates for making smart investments that benefit the community as a whole. He has fostered a spirit of collaboration between city staff and fellow council members to pass a responsible city budget that keeps Richardson moving forward on a steady path. As a testament to this, Richardson was awarded a Triple A Bond Rating - the highest credit rating possible - for the 15th consecutive year in 2024. Furthermore, the Richardson Fire Department was one of only 74 departments across the state of Texas to receive a Class 1 rating from the Insurance Services Office, which helps keep insurance costs lower for residents and businesses.
After the May 2024 Wind Storm, Mayor Dubey made it a critical priority to replace the trees lost to Mother Nature. In partnership with fellow council members and local businesses, the city launched Richardson Replants, which is in the process of planting 100 new trees across city parks and distributing 1000 free trees to residents.
Mayor Dubey is a proponent of protecting Richardson's precious green spaces, which provide walkability and raise residents' quality of life. Over the last year, the city has launched the Clean Parks Program to promote cleaner park usage, with an emphasis on teaching Richardson's youngest residents, and opened new amenities, including a disc golf course at Breckenridge Park and a new multi-use field at Apollo Park.
Additionally, Mayor Dubey believes it is vital for the city to enforce strong, fair, and understanding code enforcement across neighborhoods to keep our city looking the best it can be.
Citizen engagement is crucial for making the best decisions. As Mayor, Bob Dubey has championed new, official city boards and commissions that aim to increase public participation. The newly formed Community Engagement and Inclusion Commission is working to unite Richardson's diverse voices and ensure no one is underrepresented within their city government. Additionally, Mayor Dubey is proud to have supported the creation of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, uniquely equipping our city with a valuable resource of input to recommend safety and mobility improvements.
Richardson's vibrancy comes from its rich cultural diversity. In fact, Richardson was the first city in North Texas to have a Chinatown and the first city in our area to have a mosque. We are proudly a melting-pot city that has historically welcomed and embraced communities from all over the world.
Mayor Dubey strongly advocates intentionally uplifting Richardson's culture through community events and recognition. He firmly believes this is the key to our success in fully harnessing people's potential. As a result of this proactive leadership, Richardson was awarded the Diversity Leadership Award by the North Texas Commission in 2024.
